MEEKER — “We’re young, but I think we are going to have a really good team this year,” said Janae Shelton, who along with Deb Henderson, will coach the 15-and-under Meeker girls fast-pitch softball team. The team will play its first game tonight in New Castle and will host New Castle Monday, June 9.
“We played in this division last year, when everyone was 12 and we finished third in the tournament,” Shelton said. “Everyone returns from last year’s team and we got a couple of girls from California and one from Nebraska that will help us. We have one girl 15 and the rest are 13. They are a good group of skilled girls and I’m excited about the season.”
Meeker will also field a 12-and-under team, coached by Heather Hudman, with Henderson also assisting. The 12U team will open the season in Eagle June 11 at 6:30 p.m.
Meeker’s two summer baseball teams will open the season tonight at home, hosting New Castle, starting at 5:15 p.m. Baseball practice started June 2 and Meeker’s 8-10-year-olds, will be coached by Clinton Kilduff and Caleb Dodds. Joel Matrisciano and Jason Browning will coach Meeker’s 11-12-year-olds this summer.
