MEEKER I Two teams of three players were four-under-par at the turn of the first tournament of the season at the Meeker Golf Course Saturday last but neither team could hold the lead.
Meeker’s Bryce Ducey and Pat Walsh were joined by Rangely’s Robbie Elam to shoot a 30 in the first nine-hole of the three-person scramble, tied with Irv Griffin, Gene Ackerman and Rod Crawford.
Ducey’s team shot a 33 on the back nine to finish with the second best gross score. Griffin’s team added six strokes to their first nine and did not place.
Dave Brown, Lex Collins and Matt Fellows trailed Ducey’s team by one shot before taking one shot off on the final nine to take the title of the season’s first golf tournament. Larin Crase, Jill Massey and Jimmy Lawson finished the 18-holes with the best net score at 46. Donald Blazon, Shiloh May and Ron Kelly Crawford had the second best net score, four shots behind Crase’s team. Nine teams played in the first tournament.
The next tournament at the Meeker Golf Course will be a two-man scramble May 13, starting at 10 a.m. Shelton Welding has added $1,000 to the prize money. Contact Jim Cook at 878-5642 to sign up.
