RANGELY | The Rangely golf team is fielding the largest team in several years with 11 kids coming out for golf, seven of whom are from Meeker, which doesn’t have a high school golf team. Marshall Webber is the only senior on this young team followed by juniors Nick Massey, Phil Arnold, Elijah Demming and Tanner Ridgeway. Raiden Ganser is the lone sophomore. Freshmen are Carson Palacios, Wyatt Zufelt, Gabe Richardson, Pete Hanks and Kyle Wangnild.
After golfing all summer these kids put their skills to the test by starting off the season with a dual against Vernal last Friday. It turned out to be a very close match. Arnold came in with the lowest score at 92 to become number one on the team, Massey shot a 97 and is number two, Ganser shot a 98 and is number three, Demming shot 104 and is number four and Webber shot 107 placing at number five. Ridgeway and Hanks will also play varsity in a rotation of players as their scores in the qualifying round put them on the varsity squad. Richardson, Palacios, Zufelt and Wangnild will be the JV team. The next match is on Aug. 28 in Rifle at 9 a.m. at Rifle Creek.
