MEEKER I Just hours before the snow started falling, the annual Frostbite golf tournament was played at the Meeker Golf Course, followed by the local golf association’s annual meeting.
“It was nice fall weather,” Meeker Golf Club Association president Kurt Blunt said.
Meeker’s nine-hole course is played backward in the season-ending tournament, using a two-person scramble format. The men’s flight, which featured seven teams, was won by Pat Hughes and Dave Brown with a score of 32. Shiloh May and Randy Hall finished with the best net score (27), three shots behind the leader’s gross score.
A putt-off was needed to determine the winners in the couples flight after Patty Terp and Ted Stewart tied with George and Peggy Back with a gross score of 38. Terp and Stewart won the putt-off.
Irvin and Sharon Griffin were one shot out of the putt-off but finished with the best net score of 28.
Blunt said the staff at the 19th Hole provided dinner after the tournament and before the annual meeting and dessert was potluck.
“Revenue was down but it was still a successful year,” Blunt said, mentioning the new stucco on the clubhouse and a concrete cart path section on No. 6.
Golf pro Jim Cook and groundskeepers Don McPherson, Irvin Griffin and Hunter Fellows keep the course in great condition.
“The course is in really in great shape and one can’t complain on how it looks now at the end of the season,” Blunt said.
Cook said the course would be open until “the snow covers us up.”
