The Meeker Golf Course was host to 120 golfers Saturday last for the third annual United Way 2011 Piceance Golf tournament, sponsored by ExxonMobil and supported by many of the energy companies working in the Piceance Creek Basin. “We like doing good things for the communities we work, live and play in,” said Sandra Leyva of ExxonMobil, organizer of the event which raised more than $27,500 to be split between the United Way of Rio Blanco and Garfield counties. “Anytime I ask somebody for support, I get it for this tournament,” including supporters from Houston, Texas. Dan Whiteman, executive manager of the Piceance Project for ExxonMobil, along with Romero Perez, Piceance Project manager and his family, and operations superintendent Matt Briney and son Pierce. “This is a fantastic success for the United Way and it nice to get out of the heat in Houston,” Whiteman said.
