Good results at 4th annual Spartan Showdown

RANGELY | CNCC held it’s fourth annual Spartan Showdown rodeo March 31 and April 4.
“It was an outstanding show,” said head rodeo coach Jed Moore. “Despite the cool nights and rain prior to the event to Friday, both of the performances were ran in under two hours and 20 minutes which is outstanding for our arena size and chute set up. We absolutely couldn’t have done it without all of our sponsors, volunteers and the expertise of past assistant coach Paige Yore who traveled to Rangely this weekend just to help with this production.”
CNCC Equine and NPS Academy students worked hard on Thursday helping set up stalls. “We owe them a huge thank you for their assistance with that huge project.”
Community volunteers and parents of CNCC rodeo athletes helped make the show roll smoothly. Justin Steele and the Peters family were indispensable for the jobs they did. CNCC PTK helped run the gates, NPS handled security, and Rangely 4-H Horse Club ran concessions.
Moore thanked the sponsors who dig deep every year to provide the funding necessary to produce this event: EMC Plumbing & Heating, WC Striegel, Rangely Hometown (Duco), Budget Host Inn, Blue Mountain Inn, Urie Rock & Urie Trucking, Ducey’s Electric, Big D’s Oil field service, Wildlife Expressions, The Nichols Store, Praters, True Value, Hayes Petroleum, Rangely Conoco, Giovanni’s, Rocky Mountain Well Service, Eastwood Family, Todd and Kama Farrington, MWI Animal Health, Covered P Cattle Co.
For the CNCC Spartans, the ladies outshone the men this weekend, led by Ashley Farrington who has placed well two weeks in a row finishing fourth in the breakaway, Taylor Duzik placed seventh. Taylor Hunt and Haylie Wright both finished in the top 10 in the goat tying.
Top Spartan cowgirl Teague Crane still sits atop the regional standings in the ultra-competitive breakaway roping. Any cowgirl in the top seven could win the region this coming weekend at CMU’s rodeo.
All-around cowboy Johnny Pavkov placed well in the tie down roping, placing sixth overall. Despite not placing this weekend in the steer wrestling, Pavkov has secured his qualification to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper in June. Pavkov and partner J.D. Slagowski have an opportunity to qualify for the CNFR again with a solid performance at the final rodeo this weekend in Grand Junction at the Maverick Stampede.
The bull riding champion this weekend was CNCC alumnus Rhett Nielson. With that win, he has also clinched the bull riding title for the Rocky Mountain Region. Another CNCC alumnus, Brody Adams, has also clinched a regional title in the team roping.
The Spartans will wrap up this weekend in Grand Junction, Colo., for the CMU Maverick Stampede, Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m.
