John Dahlin of Oak Creek was transported Sept. 29 to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction after falling 25 feet from a cliff and rolling another 15 to 20 feet. According to Dahlins’ wife, Hope, he suffered head injuries and a broken kneecap, but is doing fine. Routt County in Steamboat Springs received a 911 call from the party of three hiking on Pyramid Peak in northeast Rio Blanco County. Search and rescue teams from both Routt and Rio Blanco counties as well as a helicopter from St. Mary’s were dispatched to the trailhead, about five miles from the scene. RBC Sheriff Si Woodruff also contacted Global Geophysical, which has helicopters and medical personnel stationed at its facility west of Meeker, as part of ExxonMobil’s Piceance Creek seismic operations. ExxonMobil released Global’s emergency response rescue crew to aid in the rescue effort. Global’s team was the first on the scene. Costs associated with the rescue effort were donated to Rio Blanco County as part of ExxonMobil’s long-term commitment to the region.
