Rangely Junior/Senior High School is starting a new tradition with the physical education department offering recreational opportunities for the students.
On Friday, teachers Jeremy Cantrell and Beth Scoggins took 10 students hiking to Fish Creek Falls in Steamboat Springs. The students packed a sack lunch to eat on their 5-mile hike up to the upper falls. Along the way, they stopped at the lower falls to climb around, then climbed 1,656 feet during the next 2.5 miles. The terrain was rocky and steep in many places. Overall, the kids had fun on the rocks and feeling the cold water. The PE department plans on taking several trips during the year, including ice skating, skiing, more hiking and other activities.
