Historical Society invites you to meeting

The Rio Blanco County Historical Society will host the first quarterly meeting of 2012 at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8 at Kilowatt Korner. A potluck lunch featuring soups and breads will start gathering. If possible, attendees are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share — the board will provide the soups and breads.
After lunch there will be a presentation by Bob Silbernagel. He is the editor of the editorial page of the Daily Sentinel (Grand Junction) and will be here to discuss his new book, “Troubled Trails, the Meeker Affair and the Expulsion of Utes from Colorado.” It is about the Meeker area conflicts with the Ute Indians and provides more of the Ute perspective.
The day will also include an election of board members/officers and an update on the very exciting lighting project, which is nearly underway. The lighting committee has secured an engineering proposal and has already received a few grants. Partnering with the county (who owns the building) will ensure good oversight and communication throughout this exciting, ambitious project. Included will be an upgrade to the wiring, and installation of new lighting that will enhance the whole experience of visiting the museum.
