MEEKER I From telegraph’s “Singing Wires” of the late 1800’s to 4G cell phones today, Rio Blanco County has been a part of the telecommunications ride. But somewhere in between, when there was a switchboard in the hospital and one in the Meeker Hotel; when party lines were the norm and most everyone had a 3-digit phone number, fond memories were being formed — and now is a good time to share those memories.
Welcome to the Rio Blanco County Historical Society’s quarterly meeting this Sunday, April 1 at Kilowatt Korner at 1 p.m. We’ll be presenting a series of colorful skits and stories and anecdotes of the people who pioneered telecommunications in the White River Valley. Bring a salad or dessert, any old telephone memorabilia you would like to share — and your own story.
