Holsinger wins Road Rash and Splash mini-triathlon

MEEKER — Ken Holsinger was the first to cross the finish line in the first annual Road Rash and Splash mini-triathlon, held last Saturday as part of the ERBM Recreation and Parks District’s community appreciation day. Lisa Belmonte was the first woman to cross the line and second overall.
“It went really well and everyone seemed to enjoy it,” Nicole Dupire, programs coordinator for the recreation district and event coordinator said.
Twenty-four participants, including three teams, competed in the inaugural event, which consisted of a 250-meter swim, a six-mile bike ride, followed by a three-mile run.
Everyone finished, which was good,” Dupire said.
The triathlon started in the pool, then competitors put on shoes and jumped on their bikes, peddling three miles on Sulphur Creek Road, before returning to the aquatics center to begin the run.
“We had a one-mile, figure-eight course around the ball fields and everyone made two laps,” Dupire said.
Carlin Daggett and Ben Norris were the first team to finish the triathlon in 40 minutes flat. Holsinger finished the race in 43:46 and Belmonte completed the three events in 47:08.
Alissa Gigliotti and Brian Holmes won their respective gender in the 25-30 age division and Danette Coulter won the 40-49. Cindy Balloga and Joe Fennessy were the top female and male in the 50 and older division. Carol Hollowed, Paul Daggett and Jeanne Newman won the 40-and-over team division.
Winners received their awards before the appreciation festivities held downtown.
“We will do it again next year, and hopefully I’ll get to participate,” Dupire said.
