Longtime Meeker residents Dirck and Sondra Garcia are this week’s “home of” honorees. “Dirck was born and raised in Meeker. His parents lived here soon after their marriage. I moved here with my family when I was 12 years old and started the seventh grade in the Meeker schools. We will celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary on Oct. 28,” Sondra explained.
Dirck has been retired for nearly two years from the Colorado Department of Transportation. Sondra is the billing manager and assistant office manager for White River Electric Association and has worked there for the past 18 years.
Sondra helped organize the annual Meeker Craft Show sponsored by the Ladies’ Social Club. This year’s craft show is scheduled for Nov. 4-5. Through WREA, she assists with the annual Fall Festival. Sondra also volunteers for the Meeker Health Fair.
Dirck and Sondra have two children. Their son Scott lives in Durango and their daughter Kelli is attending the graduate program for social work at the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash.
“I enjoy art, watercolor, gardening, reading and decorating. Dirck enjoys gardening, landscaping, home improvement, hunting and fishing. We both love to travel and see new places,” Sondra said.
“We love that Meeker is our home. The place where we were raised and where we’ve raised our children,” Sondra added.
