HOME OF: Lee and Karen Stanley

RANGELY | Longtime Rangely residents Lee and Karen Stanley are this week’s “home of” honorees.
“We moved to Rangely in 1989 as Lee got a job offer to teach English at CNCC,” Karen explained. The Stanleys celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary July 23.
Lee has been an English instructor for most of his CNCC career. He was CNCC vice president for a short while then returned to teaching, which is his passion.
Karen is a registered nurse. She started working at Rangely District Hospital when she moved to Rangely. Karen currently is a registered nurse at Rangely Family Medicine.
The Stanleys have two daughters. Their eldest daughter Sarah Pauley and her husband Ryan of Rock Springs, Wyo., have a 17-month-old daughter Anna and are expecting another child in April. Sarah teaches math at the college in Rock Springs and Ryan is a chemical engineer at the Rock Springs salt mine. The Stanleys’ youngest daughter is Heather Zadra of Rangely. Heather and her husband Mike have three sons: Colin, 6, Drew, 4, and Reid 16 months. Heather is a stay-at-home mom and a freelance writer for the Herald Times newspaper. Mike is a mechanic for Encana.
“We enjoy 4-wheeling. We go out in ‘The Bean’ which is our green side by side. We like hiking and spend a lot of time doing yard work. We love being with our kids and grandchildren. I was able to go on a trip to Norway with my sister, mom and aunt about 15 years ago to see where my grandmother was born. Other than that we’ve stayed around here,” said Karen.
“The people here are the best. When Lee interviewed for his job he was required to bring his wife along. We were on Main Street and we went into a convenience store to ask them ‘where Main Street was’ and discovered we were on Main Street. I gave Lee basically one year to live here and we’ve been here ever since. Rangely is the greatest place to live and raise your family,” Karen added.
