MEEKER | J.C. “Sonny” and Sally Eatherton of Meeker are this week’s “home of” honorees. Sonny and Sally arrived in Meeker on Jan. 1, 1981. The Eathertons have been married 49 years and hope to have a “big” 50th celebration next summer with family and friends.
Sonny works part-time for the Meeker Cemetery. At one time he owned a tire shop and the Texaco station. He worked for Track CB when he moved to Meeker, then the Deserado Mine, Rio Blanco County and finally the Town of Meeker. Sally worked for the Meeker School District for 24 years, mostly teaching second grade and kindergarten.
They have volunteered at the sheepdog trials for the past several years.
The Eathertons have two sons. Their youngest son, Chris, lives in Parker with his wife Tracey and their three sons, Ty, Cody and Caden. Their eldest son, Clint, lives in Dubuque, Iowa, with his wife Lynn and son Logan. Chris and Tracey’s eldest son Zachary lives in Castle Rock, Wash., with his new wife Ashlee.
“We love spending as much time as possible with our kids and grandchildren. Sonny enjoys rebuilding old trucks. He loves to hike and is planning a trip to the Grand Canyon next October. I love to get together with friends for coffee or lunch and enjoy playing bridge, sewing and helping with local children’s activities. A group of retired teachers plus one and I have been working on a project for the past five years to locate and document all of the rural schools in the county. Meeker is the best place to raise a family because of the awesome people and the beautiful setting. The weather here is great too, but we head to Arizona in the winter,” Sally said.
