Home of: Bart and Sarah Nielsen

RANGELY | Bart and Sarah Nielsen of Rangely are this week’s “home of” honorees. Bart was born in New Jersey while his dad was stationed there in the navy. His family returned to Rangely when Bart was in elementary school. Bart’s dad is Alan Nielsen of Meeker and Gloria Warren of Vernal, Utah. Bart’s parents owned the Twin Arrow Motel and the Montgomery Ward store. Gloria was a beautician and had a barbershop inside the Ward’s store.
Sarah was born at Rangely District Hospital. Her parents are Bill Hume and Joye Stockman of Rangely. Her dad has owned Nichols Store for 39 years. Bill also has Hume Distributing which delivers water, ice, milk and Meadow Gold ice cream. Sarah’s maternal grandparents belong to the Brady family, long-time Rangely area residents.
Bart and Sarah are both RHS graduates. They have been together for six years and just celebrated their second wedding anniversary Dec. 28. The Nielsens have two sons: Grady, 12, is a sixth grader at Rangely Junior Senior High School and Gage, 4, attends preschool at Parkview Elementary. Bart and Sarah own Rangely Conoco, Tire and Auto. Bart is the mechanic. Sarah runs the office and is the bookkeeper. Bart and Sarah leased and operated Gateway Conoco in Dinosaur from 2008 until Dec. 31.
“In our spare time we like to camp, hunt, fish and work. I think work must be a hobby because I do it a lot. Our boys also enjoy motorcycles and four-wheeling. We also spend time taking Grady to basketball, football and baseball practice and going to his games,” Sarah said. “I like everything about living in a small town. I’ve never lived anywhere else. Big towns have traffic, people can be mean and customer service is not the same. I like my kids going to the same schools we did and knowing their teachers. I don’t see myself living anywhere else. This is where my family and friends are,” Sarah explained.
