Home of: Deb Pettijohn

MEEKER | The timing is great for Deb Pettijohn to be this week’s “home of” honoree. Pettijohn retired from more than 20 years of service to the readers of the Herald Times last week. Just a few days later, on March 12, she became a grandmother for the first time.
Deb’s work has been appreciated by 10 editors during her lengthy tenure at the paper. She did a little of everything but specialized in customer service, was in charge of legals, classifieds, circulation, subscriptions, phone, front office and penned the “home of” column since its inception in 2006.
Deb is married to Linn, who recently retired from the U.S. Forest Service. The two have lived in Meeker since 1981 and raised their two daughters here. Deb’s oldest daughter, Ellen, is married to Andy Burkart and they live in Colorado Springs. Her younger daughter, Katie, and her husband Marc Risheill made Linn and Deb grandparents for the first time on March 12, 2013, at 4:04 p.m., when Benton Paul was born.
“He has strawberry-red hair and looks like Linn,” Deb said of her grandson, who has become her new “favorite interest.”
The Pettijohns enjoy the outdoors, especially camping, target and trap shooting and motorized recreation. They have all the “toys”: a dirt bike, a street bike, snowmobiles and a Rhino. Deb also enjoys walks with her husband and their Huskies, Asha and Mika. Now that they are both retired, they plan to travel more and do things they “haven’t had time to do over the years.”
“Meeker has been our home for more than 30 years and offers us everything we like to do with a lot of nice people,” Deb said. “It was a great place to raise our kids and will be a great place for our grandson to come visit.”
