MEEKER | Fred and Elaine Ellis of Meeker are this week’s “home of” honorees. The Ellises have lived here 16 years and have been married 46 years.
Fred is a cowboy poet, and he started “Cowboy Christian Ministries” 12 years ago. As CCM, Fred gives a one-man cowboy poet show intertwined with a gospel message at 26 Colorado prisons annually. During the summer, Fred, as CCM, takes the inmates’ children on weeklong horse trips. Fred also travels across the country with his one-man cowboy poet show performing at rodeos, sale barns, weddings and other special events. Elaine owns and operates Farm Bureau Insurance in Meeker.
The couple has three children: son Todd Ellis, wife Laura and son Luke, 10, live in Rifle. Todd is the Rifle High School principal. Fred and Elaine’s other sons are twins. Rob, his wife Dawn and boys Colton, 12, and Devon, 11 reside in Silt. Their son Rod Ellis, his son Eli, 11, and daughter Gabrielle, 7, live in Craig.
The Ellises spend their time doing things for Cowboy Christian Ministries, traveling with Fred’s one-man show and spending time with family.
