RANGELY | John and Teresa Sims of Rangely are thankful they live in Rangely, what she described as “a nice small town filled with such good people.”
The Simses have lived in Rangely for 15 years together, although John moved to the town with his parents when he was 4 years old.
John and Teresa met when he was a member of the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and she was in the academy to become a CSP officer as well.
They have been for married 23 1/2 years, having exchanged their wedding vows in Pueblo, where Teresa was born and raised.
John and Teresa have retired from the CSP, he with 25 years of duty and she with nine and a half years.
Although officially retired, John is the lead firearms instructor and Teresa is a firearms instructor with the National Park Service Academy, taught at Colorado Northwest Community College in Rangely. She has also served on the Rangely Cemetery Board.
The Simses have two children and two grandchildren. Daughter Kelly Jo Sims lives in Florida and son Michael Hill and his wife, Elga, live in New Jersey. The Hills have two children in son Thomas and daughter Samantha.
As far as hobbies go, John and Teresa enjoy teaching their conceal and carry firearms classes and they both enjoy hunting and fishing in their spare time.
Under special honors, John has won several Governor’s 20 awards for handgun shooting competitions and Teresa is proud that her last position with the CSP was as a member of the Governor’s Executive Security Unit, providing security at the governor’s mansion as well as the state Capitol.
John and Teresa have enjoyed living in Meeker for the past several years.
“There is a much quieter and slower pace of life here,” she said. “We both really enjoy that.”
