Home of: Larry and Sandra Johnson

MEEKER | After 17 years in Meeker, Larry and Sandra Johnson are pretty fond of their home town, particularly the “great way that everybody treats each other,” Larry said.
Larry and Sandra are Colorado natives. Both were born in Denver.
The Johnsons moved here in 1996 from Erie, which is on the Front Range.
They exchanged wedding vows in 1965 in Denver and are currently two years away from the special landmark of their 50th anniversary.
Larry and Sandra also have two children.
Son Josh Johnson, 41, and his wife, Alana, live in the Denver suburb of Brighton. He is a member of the Wheat Ridge Police Department. Josh and Alana have given Larry and Sandra three grandchildren.
Daughter Beth Willey (we won’t tell her age) and her husband, Ron, reside in Meeker. Beth is the assistant director at the Meeker Chamber of Commerce, Larry said. Beth and Ron have given Larry and Sandra another grandchild.
Larry has a lot of experience in the lumber business. Now retired, he worked for Meeker Lumber, then Moyer Lumber and then he ran Rio Blanco Lumber from the time it opened until the owners closed down the company, which was in “2003 or 2004,” he said.
“Then it was time to retire,” he said.
Sandra continues to work at the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District (ERBM) Recreation Center in Meeker, where she works in marketing.
Larry said he doesn’t really have any hobbies now other than helping Sandra out. However, he said he certainly did enjoy hunting and fishing when he could get around a little better.
“Sandra has a horse, four goats including a milking goat — which is why we got the goats in the first place,” he said. “Sandra also enjoys painting, but she doesn’t have much time for that these days.
“We both love the Meeker area,” Larry said. “It is an overall friendly town with friendly people, and it is just the right size. But mostly, I really like the great way that everybody treats each other — with respect and like friends.”
