MEEKER | Roy and Lee Light of Meeker are this week’s “home of” honorees. The Lights moved here in July 2008, from Loyalton, Calif., which is “right on the eastern border of California.” They have been married 36 years.
Roy is a retired mechanic. Lee is also retired. She worked for the Mountain Messenger, “the oldest weekly newspaper in California,” as a “hard news, investigative and government reporter.” Lee currently has “The Seamstress” sewing business in Meeker. She does all types of sewing and alterations, except for canvas tents.
The couple has four children: daughter Chrys Sackett of Meeker; daughter Linda Ebersole and her son Matt of Texarkana, Ark.; daughter Norma Husbye and her son Matthew and daughter Kristin of Sumner, Wash.; and son Jimmy Light and wife Valerie Rose of Colfax, Calif.
In their spare time, they like to “sleep” and “ride the back roads.” Nowadays, Lee makes sure to bring along “maps, food, water and sleeping bag” for their back-road trips.
Lee said, “I feel like I’ve moved onto the set of a Rodgers and Hammerstein down-home musical The people are the most amazing I’ve ever come across.”
