RANGELY | Long-time Rangely resident Steve Kraft is this week’s “home of” honoree. Steve moved here in 1963 with his mom Jean Hejl. At the time, Steve’s grandparents, John and Frances Comstock owned the old NAPA auto parts store (Rangely Carquest is now in that building) and a Ford dealership now the vacant lot on the corner of Main and White. Steve is the finance director for Rangely School District Re-4. He is a17-year employee of the district.
Steve has three grown children. His son Ben Kraft of Fairbanks, Alaska, is engaged to Christina Jensen. They are planning an October wedding. His daughter Sarah Matrisciano, her husband Jeff, their son Parker, 9, and daughter Bryce, 6, live in Grand Junction. His son Jordan Kraft, a wildlife biologist, and his recent bride Julie Allen of Meeker live in Elk Mountain, Wyo.
When asked what he likes most about Rangely, Steve replied, “I like the people and small town atmosphere plus the remoteness and everything that goes along with it, like hunting and fishing.”
