MEEKER | Celebrating their “sweet sixteen” birthdays July 15 are this week’s “home of” honorees Taylor Morris and Alexis Gutierrez of Meeker. Taylor is the daughter of Todd and Tonya Morris. Alexis” parents are Joe and Kari Gutierrez of Meeker and Donna Gutierrez of Rifle.
Both girls will be juniors at Meeker High School this fall. Taylor is a lifeguard at Meeker Recreation Center. Alexis is a barista at Cuppa Joe’s making smoothies and drinks.
Taylor and Alexis went to Washington, D.C., for their eighth grade class trip. Alexis has taken dance since she was in grade school. Her dance troupe performed at the Holiday Bowl in San Diego a couple of years ago. In December her troupe is scheduled to dance at the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla. “Besides dance, I also like to go hunting with my dad,” Alexis explained.
Taylor is involved in 4H, fast pitch softball, cheerleading, basketball, National Honor Society, student council and MHS Drama. Taylor went to Costa Rica with classmates and sponsor Dr. Bob Dorsett this summer.
Taylor and Alexis like living in Meeker as their friends and family are here. “I get to spend a lot of time with family and friends. This community is pretty great and cute,” Taylor said.
Neither girl has special plans for her birthday. “Dad’s going to surprise me,” stated Alexis.
“No plans for my birthday, but I’m excited to go to basketball camp at Colorado Mesa on Monday,” Taylor added.
