The 2018 Mountain West Football opening weekend began Sept. 8 with the Rangely third/fourth and fifth/sixth grade teams traveling to Starbuck Stadium to take on the Meeker Mustangs teams. Under sunny skies, fans on both side of the field enjoyed the hard work, dedication, and great sportsmanship which has become the hallmark of teams participating in the Mountain West League. First game nerves were the order of the day as the Mustangs came out on top in both contests.
Sept. 15 had the Meeker Mustangs traveling to battle the well coached boys of Rifle and earning tough wins in both the third/fourth and fifth/sixth contests. The Rangely fifth/sixth squad had a bye week with the third/fourth grade boys traveling to Basalt to take on a tough crew from Aspen. A great game, Aspen prevailed in a very close contest. Home town fans are encouraged to travel and watch these boys continue to work hard, play as a team and compete in surrounding towns.
