MEEKER I The snow from recent storms melted into the fairways and greens at Meeker Golf Course and the sun shone all day last Saturday for the first annual Shelton Welding three-person scramble.
“The course is in great shape and the greens are rolling good,” golf pro Jim Cook said.
Bill de Vergie, Pat Hughes and Chad Luce topped the competition in the field of 12 teams, shooting a 12-under par 90 to win first gross honors in the 27-hole event. There was a tie for the second best gross score between Norbert Boes, Lex Collins and Pat Walsh and the trio of Pat and Andy Coryell and Neil Joy. Both teams were three shots behind the winners.
Dan Ilgen, Keith Rule and Jason Steiner won the net side of the tournament with a net score of 76, while golf veterans Irv Griffin, Butch Rael and Harry Watt placed second with a net score of 79.
Cook said this year the ladies’ club will use a shotgun start each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s club and couples night will do the same on Wednesdays and Thursdays, respectively.
