RANGELY I A dozen Rangely Hurricanes swam in the Montrose Marlin Summer Open Saturday and Sunday in preparation of the Western Slope Championships to be held in Grand Junction this weekend.
The Hurricanes finished eighth as a team in a field of 18 and several individuals placed high in several events.
Patrick Scoggins swam in nine events, winning six and finishing second in the other three. Scoggins has now qualified for five events in the Junior Olympics, with a time of 2:16.15 in the 200 free in the 13-14 division and Korrynn Wenzel finished third in both the 50 breast and 100 individual medley, in the 11-12 division in Montrose.
Scoggin’s brothers, James and William, also swam well in nine events in the 15-and older division in Montrose.
“Caleb Noel has some great swims and knocked off huge amounts of time in all of his events,” coach Matt Scoggins said of Noel, who swam in seven events in the 11-and-under division in Montrose.
Noel’s brother Colton (9-10), along with Stephanie Joos (15-and older), Brennan Noyes (13-14), Mary Scoggins (9-10), Timothy Scoggins (9-10) all competed in six events in their respective age divisions.
Philip Noyes swam in three events and Brandon Willis swam in two in the 9-10 division for the Hurricanes.
