RBC I The senate seat for Colorado’s Eighth District will stay in the White family. Jean White was appointed to fill her husband Al’s senate seat, after Al White was appointed by Governor-elect John Hickenlooper to become the director of the Colorado Tourism Office.
A Republican vacancy committee of eight, chaired by John Ponikvar, interviewed six candidates, including White, Monday, Jan. 3.
Bob McConnell, who was a candidate for the Third Congressional District in the 2010 election and former Moffat County commissioner T. Wright Dickinson, along with Jeff Fry of Hayden, Shannon Stowe of Glenwood Springs and Kay Meyring of Walden were the other candidates.
Al White will be named the director of the Colorado Tourism Office Jan. 11 and Jean will be sworn in to serve the remaining two years of her husband’s term, Jan. 12.
