MEEKER I ERBM Recreation and Park District board members, staff and members of the Jensen family gathered Sunday, July 24, to rededicate the 57-acre parcel of land formerly known as Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park. The 57-acre tract of land on the northern edge of town was donated to the ERBM Recreation and Park District in 2006, with the hope that it would one day house a developed trail system. The park was rededicated and renamed the Phillip and Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park, to honor the passing of the late Phillip Jensen. The recreation district has recently retained the services of Norris Design to design and administer the construction of a roughly three mile loop trail system. The trail will include a lower trail system (easier difficulty), a mountain bike course loop and an upper trail (more difficult) that will eventually connect with BLM land and terminate at the regional high point on top of China Wall. “The rededication coincided with the memorial service that was held for Phillip Jensen and gave the recreation district the opportunity to thank the Jensen family for their generous donation,” said Michael Weinbrecht, ERBM Recreation and Park District’s current operations manager. When asked about the district’s goals for the project Weinbrecht replied, “We hope that the Phillip and Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park will become the cornerstone for further trail development in and around town.”
