John Wix gets six months of probation

MEEKER I After pleading guilty to reckless endangerment, John Wix was given a deferred sentence — six months unsupervised probation — Monday in district court.
Wix’s case had been scheduled to go to trial last week, but he reached a plea agreement May 27. The charge he pleaded guilty to was a class 3 misdemeanor.
Other charges in the case, including contributing to the delinquency of a minor, were dismissed by the district attorney.
The original charges stemmed from a party last summer at Wix’s upriver property involving underage drinking.
As a stipulation of the plea agreement, Wix had to write a letter of apology to the victim in the case, who at the time of the incident was 15. The morning after the party, she was taken to the hospital for alcohol poisoning.
“This letter of apology and regret yet gratitude for life, safety and well-being constitutes a lesson learned by all,” Wix wrote. “Had I seen or known the magnitude of what was about to occur, I surely would have evicted everyone. I would never, knowingly, allow anyone to be in danger …
“I should have taken more responsibility and asserted control over what got out of control upon my departure. … Knowing many of the young men and trusting their judgment was the wrong thing to do.”
