RANGELY | Meeker and Rangely junior high girls again met on the hardwood Jan. 26 in Rangely. The eighth grade A game started off close, with a score at the end of the first quarter of Rangely, 4, to Meeker, 6. The Panther defense did not show the intensity it had in earlier games and struggled to contain the Meeker offense the rest of the game. The girls ended the game with a loss and a final score of 13-23. Four Panthers scored in the contest. Kastyn Demboski and Rylee Allred both contributed two points, Kadence Wagner scored three and Kyrah Phelps led the team in scoring with six.
The eighth grade B team followed, also against Meeker. The Panthers trailed at the end of the first quarter with a score of 4-12. The girls dug deep and didn’t give up. By halftime they had cut the Meeker lead to five, with a halftime score of Meeker, 16, Rangely, 11. The lady Panthers took control the second half with hustle and good defense to tie the game up at 22-22 at the end of regulation. They then tacked on five more points in overtime to win the game, 27-24. The lady Panther B team remains unbeaten so far this season. Scoring in the game were Alyson Polley, two points; Emma Smith, three; Kastyn Dembowski and Annika Cantrell, five points each; and leading scorer Morgan Ellis with 12.
