MEEKER I More than 40 ladies competed in the annual Ladies Deerfly tournament, hosted by the Meeker Ladies Club at the Meeker Golf Course last Saturday.
The annual two-lady scramble featured 21 teams from courses around the Western Slope, divided into two flights.
The mother-and-daughter team Deanna and Loren Forney of Grand Junction was the best team on the course, shooting an 8-under par 60 to win the championship flight. Glenwood Springs golfers Tami Holt and Pam Buerger finished second with a gross score of 67.
Local golfers Christy Atwood and Mindy Burke turned in the best net score (56) to take top net honors in the championship flight, while Patty Bruchez and Nance Brandenburg of Hayden finished one shot behind Atwood and Burke both in gross (73) and net for second place.
Jolie Gortsema and Michelle David of Glenwood Springs shot a 75 to beat Alice Crandell and Rebecca Devila, also of Glenwood Springs by four strokes. Meeker Ladies Club president Peggy Back and teammate Patty Edwards shot the second best gross score (76) but took first place in the second flight with a net score of 52, six shots ahead of Kristi Shelton and Annette Franta of Glenwood Springs.
