MEEKER I “It was not our best weekend of the season,” Meeker’s head volleyball coach Christy Atwood said of losing efforts to Paonia and Vail Mountain. The lady Cowboys will have an opportunity to avenge their loss to Paonia and a loss two weeks ago to Vail Christian, as both matches will count towards league standings, this Saturday in a triangular in Vail.
“We play Paonia again this week and we will get prepared to play our game against them,” Atwood said of the rematch.
Meeker lost to the Eagles in three straight games: 11-25, 19-25 and 18-25.
“Our service percentage was horrible and we couldn’t get into a groove on offense,” Atwood said.
The lady Cowboys did serve as well against Vail Mountain on their home court Saturday last but they did take the match to five games.
“We played better but we still didn’t serve well,” Atwood said. “We like to serve at more than 90 percent but it was 83 percent against Vail Mountain. It changed the momentum for us at times we didn’t want it to.”
Meeker lost the first game 17-25 but came back to win the next two 26-24 and 25-22 before losing the next two 23-25 and 3-15.
Atwood said senior Katie Morgan has recovered from a leg injury and said “it’s good to have her back in the rotation.”
“We’ll be ready for this weekend,” Atwood said.
