RBC I Meeker’s Kaysyn Chintala and Rangely’s Quincey Thacker represented their schools last Sunday in the Colorado Coaches of Girls’ Sports all-state basketball game last Sunday. The game was played at Arvada West High School.
After competing against each other the past four years, the two Rio Blanco County seniors were able to play on the same team.
“I’m so fortunate to have this opportunity to be able to play with and against such talented girls,” Chintala said. “This experience has been very special and very memorable. I was very excited to play with Quincey, she is a very gifted athlete. Thank you to all my friends, family, coaches, teammates and supporters for making this happen for me.”
Chintala finished the game with three rebounds, four steals, three assists (one to Thacker) and eight points, including two 3-pointers and a full court pass from Thacker for a fast break layup.
Thacker led the Blue team with eight rebounds, two steals, three assists (two to Chintala) and seven points.
“I love playing basketball and it was an honor to play with the top 16 girls in the 2A division in Colorado,” Thacker said. “I am so glad that I was able to participate in the games and I was stoked when I found out Kaysyn was on my team. Thanks to all my friends and family who supported me, I really appreciate it.”
The Blue team led 34-27 at halftime and was ahead the entire game until the last four minutes, when the Red team caught up, went ahead and won the game 73-65.
The girls were honored at the banquet, where they received certificates, sweatshirts and team photos.
