MEEKER | The first week of district opponents completed and the lady Cowboy basketball team is 2-0 on the league and 7-2 overall.
Hosting West Grand last Friday they came out ready to play, the start was a little slower than West Grand’s in the first quarter, but by half time the Cowboys were up 29-26.
Senior Julia Dinwiddie and junior Sarah Kracht each had stellar performances; Dinwiddie scored 25 points and led the team with 16 rebounds and Kracht scored 23 points.
In the second half Meeker continued to dominate outscoring the Mustangs 33-26 for a final score of 62-52.
Traveling to Walden the next day to battle the Wildcats four Cowboys bested ten points through the net: Dinwiddie leading with 16, Kracht and Kirsten Brown each with 13, and Tilly Brown with 12. Off the boards, Dinwiddie and Haley Follman each with twelve total rebounds helped to lead the Cowboys to the 67-63 victory.
This coming weekend is another home and away split. On Friday the Cowboys host Caprock and then Saturday they travel to Vail to take on Vail Christian.
The girls are currently ranked 13 in Colorado 2A basketball and only Rangely, who is ranked 10, is a district member with a current higher ranking. These two teams are not slated to play until February 7, at Rangely.
