MEEKER I The Meeker High School girls’ volleyball team traveled to Glenwood Springs on Friday and Saturday for four matches. The girls found the competition very intense and played several extremely close games.
Meeker faced a much larger Glenwood Springs team, forcing the match to three games.
They lost the first 21-25 before coming back to win the second game handily 25-17, the final game was close but Meeker fell 9-15.
Meeker found their next match against 4A Rifle even closer, forcing not only a third game, but the Bears needed extra points in the third to get by the smaller school. Meeker came out strong, winning game one, 25-21, but they lost the second 17-25 and the third game 15-17.
Grand Valley is 3A and Meeker came out ready to play, winning the first game 25-20. The Cardinals from Parachute battled back to win the second game 23-25, and the third game got away from Meeker 5-15.
The only game of the tournament against a team of the same size was against a league team, West Grand. Meeker dominated game one 25-12, fell in game two by 21-25 and once again found themselves extremely close in game three, losing 13-15.
The JV and C teams traveled to Palisade for a weekend full of volleyball and all the teams come to practice this week preparing for Hayden and Vail Christian this weekend, both days on the road.
