MEEKER I “We played much, much better,” Meeker volleyball coach Christy Atwood said of her team’s matches in Hayden last Saturday.
The Lady Cowboys lost to the host team in a non-league game, before pushing the defending league champions to five games in a losing effort.
“We changed the lineup and the girls responded well,” Atwood said. “Kaysyn Chintala had an incredible day in all aspects of the game. She was the rock of our team Saturday.”
Meeker played Hayden first and opened the match with a 25-21 win, but lost the next three 25-22, 25-22 and 25-23.
The Hayden triangular also featured the Vail Christian Saints, last year’s Western Slope League champions. Meeker started well against the Saints, winning the first game 25-21, then lost 25-8 before coming back with a 25-23 win in the third game. Meeker lost the fourth game 25-18 and the match with a 15-7 loss in the final game.
“We are going through a learning curve because of our lack of varsity experience but we are getting much better,” Atwood said. “Everyone who played, just one play, one game or the whole match, contributed to the team as needed. It was a great, team effort.”
Meeker will host Plateau Valley Friday and travel to Oak Creek to challenge the Soroco Rams Saturday.
