MEEKER I The 2013 volleyball season is in full swing and every match counts.
Coach Christy Atwood said, “Getting wins and capitalizing on the game plans we have been working on are going to be critical.”
The Meeker girls did just that over the weekend getting two more wins, extending their winning streak and setting themselves up for a successful post season. Atwood, along with her team and staff, know that teams will bring their very best during this critical part of the season. This along with playing in Hotchkiss for its homecoming, and the second time in two weeks, added to the difficulty of the match Friday night.
The lady Cowboys stayed with their game plan and fought through the Bulldogs’ best attempts at runs, beating them in four games.
Saturday, the girls played Plateau Valley in what Atwood said was “the most fun match of the season for our girls. We were able to play kids in positions that they haven’t played in this year and they were successful.”
Meeker won the match in three games and made the third one “worth the price of admission,” according to Atwood.
Plateau Valley is a scrappy team that can get a team out of sync but Meeker kept their composure and once again stayed with their game plan, winning an impressive third game 32-30.
The girls clearly enjoyed the game and look forward to homecoming this week against Paonia for the match that will count in the league standings. Both teams are undefeated in league play up to this point.
“They will always bring their best game and it has become a fun and intense rivalry. What better kind of matches to play for homecoming?” Atwood said.
The games are scheduled for 4, 5 and 6 p.m., on Friday and Saturday the Cowgirls host Soroco at noon, 1 and 2 p.m., and the bigger the crowd the better, come support the Meeker volleyball team as they strive to continue their undefeated record in league play.
