MEEKER I The Meeker volleyball team won its homecoming game against Caprock Academy Friday night behind outstanding defensive play and the always composed setter Maggie Phelan holding things together and getting the ball to necessary hitters to get the win.
The lady Cowboys seemed to be dominating Plateau Valley Saturday before the momentum changed and Meeker could not seem to battle back from a surge of errors.
The Meeker team looks, at times, to be capable of beating any team in the league. However, serving, and hitting errors were hard to overcome in this match.
Tuesday night against Rangely Meeker played well in game one and two as both games went back and forth with Rangely winning the first but Meeker coming out on top of game two.
The team was playing team volleyball with great digs from Payton Burke as well as extremely good play at the net by Reese Pertile.
Game three saw a different team on the floor as Rangely hit a hot streak offensively and Meeker struggled to get a kill.
They came out strong in game four and had the lead to the 20-point mark. The Panthers took game four and the match.
Meeker will play Paonia this weekend, and try to turn things around. When the lady Cowboys have momentum they can play with any team, this weekend is a match that could shake up the entire league and get Meeker back in contention.
