MEEKER I The lady Cowboys came out strong in the first half of the game against Rangely and the score was 19-4 Meeker going into the second half.
“We came out intense on defense,” said head coach Jamie Rogers. “We caused turnovers and capitalized on the steals. Rangely adjusted in the second quarter and the game stayed pretty even from then on.”
The final score was 50-41.
Seniors Kirsten Brown and Julia Dinwiddie were the top scorers Friday, Brown had 13 points and Dinwiddie 16. These two seniors, Brown and Dinwiddie, were also responsible for 11 steals. It was a whole team effort on defense. Sarah Kracht had five steals and Hailey Knowles had four, as a team there were a total of 23.
Headed into three varsity games, Rogers calls it a “big weekend.” Meeker will be taking on Soroco and Hotchkiss, teams currently tied for second in the league, they both have one loss, “We have to take care of business,” Rogers said.
Varsity will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday against Soroco, the rest of the weekend the teams will be on the road.
