MEEKER I A 49-41 win over the West Grand Mustangs last Friday in Kremmling guaranteed the Lady Cowboys a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Meeker followed up the Northwest League victory with a 65-21 slaying of the De Beque Dragons on its home court Saturday.
“We lost to West Grand by a point earlier in the season, so this was a good win for us,” Meeker head coach Hallie Blunt said of her team’s fourth Northwest League victory. Meeker has two league games left and will play in Rangely Saturday, before ending the regular season the following week against Paonia.
Meeker senior Stacey Fitzgibbons scored eight of her game-leading 20 points in the first quarter and the Lady Cowboys led 12-8 after the first eight minutes against the Mustangs.
De Vergie finished the league contest with 14, while freshman Kaysyn Chintala hit a 3-pointer and finished with seven. Chapin and senior Timbre Shriver each added four against the Mustangs.
Fitzgibbons and de Vergie dominated underneath the basket to set the tone early, as each had eight points and several rebounds to give their team a 20-2 first quarter lead.
Fitzgibbons led all scorers with 20 points. De Vergie finished with 10.
Meeker will play in Rangely Saturday, starting at 2:30 p.m.
