MEEKER — The Lady Cowboy basketball team won all three of its games to win the High Country Invitational basketball tournament last week in Granby. Meeker defeated Love Christian, West Grand and host Middle Park to go undefeated in the tournament.
The Lady Cowboys beat Love Christian 66-30 last Thursday and they defeated West Grand 43-37.
“The girls did a nice job against West Grand, they are a good team,” head coach Hallie Blunt said of the Lady Mustangs, a Northwest League foe. “We did a good job of keeping our composure when it got close. It was a good win.”
Meeker played host Middle Park in its final game of the tournament and beat them 59-35 to finish the round-robin undefeated.
“The games against Love Christian and Middle Park were good for our confidence,” Blunt said. “I was happy with the intensity the girls played with and the control they used on offense when they needed to.”
Meeker seniors Marki Cook and Janae Kindall were named to the all-tournament team by the coaches.
“They both played really well,” Blunt said.
Meeker will return from the Christmas break and begin league play against the Plateau Valley Cowboys.
“Plateau Valley lost a bunch to graduation, but it’s going to be a great league this year with Paonia, Rangely and Hayden,” Blunt said.
