RANGELY I Like the Panther boys’ basketball team, the Lady Panthers won two games in Colorado but lost in Wyoming. The Lady Panthers pounced on Vail Christian 47-24 then pounded the West Grand Mustangs 61-32 before losing 20-51 to the Little Snake River Lady Rattlers in Baggs, Wyo., last Saturday.
Rangely jumped out to a 12-8 lead against Vail Christian after the first quarter but only scored five in the second to lead 17-12 at halftime. Rangely was paced by Victoria Phelan who hit two three-pointers in the first half, scoring 12 of her 20 points in the first two periods.
Phelan led her team with six more points in the third, where Rangely put the game away with an 18 point effort in the final period, six of them from Brittany Babineaux, who finished in double figures with 11.
Marie Morton added six, Rozilynn Thacker had four, while Kelsey Harvey, Haeley Enterline and Torie Slagle all made a basket.
Rangely put the game away early against the Mustangs. Phelan again led all scorers, with 24 points, 15 of them in the first quarter. Rangely led 21-8 after the first period and added another 14 in the second, to lead 35-14 at halftime.
Everyone got into the game and most scored. Babineaux hit a three-pointer in each of the first three periods and finished the game with 20 points. Thacker scored five, while Harvey, Enterline, Slagle and Morton each added three to their team’s point total.
The Lady Panthers played four games in five days last week, winning the first four but were snake bitten at the end by the Lady Rattlers in Baggs, in their final game of the long stretch.
Phelan was held to four points and no Rangely player scored in double figures. Babineaux led the team with eight, Hailee Russell scored four, while Enterline and Morton each added two.
The Lady Panthers will play in Paonia Friday and host the Lady Tigers from Hayden Saturday.
