RANGELY | The Rangely High School girls’ basketball team will open the season this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in Meeker against the Cedaredge Bruins in the first round of the 2016 White River Electric Cowboy Shootout. “The Shootout is always a great event,” Quinton Kent, who is starting his fifth year as head coach of the lady Panthers, said. Coach Kent said 16 girls are out for the team and “we have five seniors: Katye Allred, Sidney Shaffer, Lindzey Thacker and McKenzie Webber.” The Panthers finished last season with a 7-5 league record and were 8-12 overall. Rangely is on the same side of the bracket as South Routt County (Soroco) and Mesa Ridge’s JV, which will be the first game of the annual season-opening tournament, starting at 3 p.m. “We are just excited to play someone besides ourselves,” coach Kent said, as his team has been practicing since Nov. 10. Kurt Douglas will again assist Kent with the coaching duties.
