Lady Panthers play in Wyoming today

RANGELY I The Rangely girls’ basketball team will play Snake River tonight in Baggs, Wyo. The last time the two teams met resulted in a very close 32-35 loss by Rangely, so the Panthers are working toward a better outcome this time.
The lady Panthers will then travel to Walden to play the North Park Wildcats on Friday before taking a break for Christmas.
Last weekend, Rangely played Duchesne on Friday night. Coach Kent said, “We played well in the first half; our defense was solid and we matched them offensively.”
The Panthers were only down three at half with Desiree Coombs having scored six points, Tessa Slagle and Aimee Hogan each had four and Chelsea Ficken added two. Unfortunately, Rangely’s offense went cold.
“We couldn’t make a shot whether it was at the basket or 30 feet away; it didn’t matter, the result was the same,” Kent said.
Duchesne came out on top 44-16.
On Saturday, the girls played Manila, Utah, and their coach was pleased with the improved scoring.
“Manila was big in the post position and we had a hard time containing them inside,” Kent said.
Rangely went into the locker room down by eight, but stayed right with Manila in the third quarter. But it was not enough to get a win.
The Panthers were led by Hogan with 10 points, followed by Carrie Goddard with eight, Coombs with six, Ficken with four and Slagle with two.
Slagle also led the team in rebounds with seven followed by Ficken with six and Goddard with five.
Rangely hopes to get a pair of wins to take into the break, then come back refreshed and ready to start their regular season.
