RANGELY I What a difference a day makes.
The Lady Panthers played perhaps their best match of the season last Friday against Vail Mountain.
The next day, against Plateau Valley, they didn’t play nearly as well.
However, the outcomes were the same. Rangely won both matches in three games.
“We played really well, I thought,” coach Jimmie Mergelman said of the match against Vail Mountain. “I thought that was probably the best match we played so far. We didn’t have a lot of errors. Everybody really clicked.”
The Lady Panthers beat Vail Mountain by the scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-10.
Against Plateau Valley last Saturday, Rangely also won in three games, but the scores were closer: 25-14, 25-22 and 25-23. The Lady Panthers weren’t at their best.
“We were off,” Mergelman said. “We had a ton of hitting errors. We did not play well. I think we played really well the night before. I have no idea why we didn’t (on Saturday).”
Still, the Lady Panthers improved their record to 9-1.
This week, Rangely beat Hayden in five games in a non-league match Tuesday night. On Saturday, the Lady Panthers have a league showdown with Soroco.
“That could be huge,” Mergelman said. “They have pretty much everybody coming back, like us. It should be a good one.”
