Dear Editor:
The 13th annual White River Community Association Buy/Fly Fishing Tournament hosted eight wonderful teams who competed for prizes, enjoyed good food and caught the whitefish needed for the Community Fish Fry this year.
We had great weather March 11 and 12, both days of the tournament. Final weigh-in was Sunday afternoon followed by a delicious chili dinner complete with plenty of desserts prepared by association members.
Teams consisted of first place Rio Blanco Abstract, second place Sable Mountain Outfitters, third place New Mexico Lobos, as well as the Project Healing Waters Veterans’ team, Drake Consulting team from Rifle, New Mexico team No. 2, Tom Brauch’s Castle Rock team and Mark Scritchfield’s team. Adam Parrett with the Rio Blanco Abstract took home the individual prize by turning in the most pounds of fillets in the tournament.
The White River Community Association wants to thank the judges for this year’s event: Mike Sizemore, Shawn Welder, Steve Wix, Bailey Franklin, Andy Forrest, Jim Brown, Si Woodruff and Crystal who was here with the Project Healing Waters Veterans Team.
Thanks also to J.C. Watt, Watt’s Ranch Market, for helping with the cost of groceries to feed the participants; Teresa Mack, The Embroidery Shop, who did a great job with the logo and embroidery work on the jackets and vests we gave as prizes; and Stan Wyatt, Wyatt’s Sporting Goods, for donating the fishing backpacks that were also given as prizes.
We also want to thank the community for its continued support of the historic Buford School and look forward to seeing everyone at the annual Community Fish Fry on June 10 from 4-6 p.m. at the Buford School.
