The year 2010 is going to be the most important election of our lifetimes. Every person needs to become active to get the right people elected this year.
We have a president who has no clue how the economy operates. Who thinks that American agriculture is the polluter of the world. Who is more afraid of the kind of people who live in Rio Blanco County than terrorists.
We have a Congress that has no shame in how far they will cross moral and ethical boundaries to force us into serfdom.
We have a governor who has tried to steal our brand inspection, our severance taxes, and has done all he can to wreck the economy of the Western Slope.
One thing that has become clear the last couple of years is that the government looks on agriculture as a minority and livestock associations as a minority within a minority. All ag associations are having a hard time getting an audience with representatives who do not have an ag background. They say we don’t have enough members to make our viewpoint valid.
I would like to challenge every rancher in Rio Blanco County to join the Rio Blanco Stockgrowers Association, the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association, and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association at least through the year 2013. Numbers mean everything to an elected official. Help us help you.
The Rio Blanco Stockgrowers annual meeting is Feb. 6. For more information write Rio Blanco Stockgrowers, P. O. Box 1419, Meeker, CO 81641. For the other organizations go to www.beef.org and www.coloradocattle.org.
