Letter: Citing her health, Borchard decides not to seek re-election to PMC board

Dear Editor,
As you know, I was recently diagnosed with cancer. I am now engaged in the battle of my life, a battle I will fight to win with the prayers and support of my family and friends. Under these circumstances, I want to focus my energy on my health and feel I must withdraw my candidacy for the Pioneers Medical Center Board of Directors.
When I was appointed to the board seven years ago by the county commissioners, Pioneers was a county hospital with an uncertain financial future. The board made the decision to seek voter approval for the establishment of a hospital district. The survival of Pioneers is now assured and the citizens in the district will continue to benefit from an increasing level of quality health care. The involvement of many Pioneers’ staff members and the use of Pioneers’ equipment in the recent Channel 9 Health Fair is just one example of how having a local hospital benefits our community. I want to urge everyone to take full advantage of the screening opportunities the health fair offers. Thanks to the ultra-sound screening provided at the health fair by Pioneers Medical Center, my cancer was discovered and I now have a fighting chance.
There are many more challenges facing the board in the coming months and years. I wish the future board nothing but the best, and I will continue to support Pioneers Medical Center in any way I can.
