St. James Episcopal Church, built in 1889, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The vestry of St. James has resolved to write a letter in opposition to the proposed justice center on the existing Meeker Elementary School site. We feel the proposed center would not be in keeping with the historical value of the downtown area. Meeker should be preserving its heritage and capitalizing on the future use of the present building. Grants are available from the state historical fund for rehabilitating the building for future use. The building is one of the few remaining W.P.A. projects in northwest Colorado. A preservation effort in the heart of Meeker will contribute to the historical importance of our community.
