We read with interest your “50 years ago” in last week’s paper.
We lived in Meeker for 35 years, and knew all of the boys listed, 16 of which played in the Meeker High School Band!
In 1965 we sent a picture of the Meeker High School Band performing the Bronco Football game at Mile High Stadium for the 1965 game. They were half time entertainment. Sixteen boys listed in your football listing were part of that band. The coaches were more than willing to let the boys do football and high school band also. During many of the at-home football games, the football boys would come into the stands in their football uniforms and play in the half time shows with the band.
Their band director was Dale Jens, who was called DJ.
We felt those years in Meeker were the best that one could ask for! Hello to all our Meeker friends!
