Letter: Helping hands don’t need government

In response to far left opinions, there is a difference between helping your neighbor, and the government forcing you to hand over part of your hard earned living to someone else. People think that we have a right in America to be happy, this is not the case. The Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Pursuit: An effort to secure or attain. Americans have the right to put forth an effort to secure or attain happiness. This is why America is so great, we have the option of going out and earning a living for ourselves and our family. Or you can sit on your rear all day and hope someone feeds you, or hands over part of their living just so you can sit down a little longer.
Now I understand that most Americans aren’t this lazy, and jobs are getting harder and harder to find as the months go on. Not everyone is going to be able to afford health care, many cannot today. But I remember someone (Obama) promising that unemployment would not reach 8 percent if we passed the stimulus package. We are now over 9 percent. You might say, “Well, that’s just one miscalculation!” This isn’t all that Obama miscalculated. He also miscalculated the price, but don’t worry, he was off by just a few trillion dollars. Cash for clunkers was supposed to last four months, but it only lasted four days, and the dealerships were told they would receive their cash for the clunkers within 10 days, and it has been over four weeks now and they are still waiting.
My point is this administration can’t seem to even hit the dart board when it comes to estimating the cost or the time on some important issues. And you want these people running you and your kids’ health care? And you thought waiting a week to see the doctor was bad, wait till Obama starts handing out so-called free health care, that is going to give a whole new meaning to the word “debt.” They will tell you, “You can choose to keep your same health care if you want.” This is true, as long as you never change jobs. Besides, what makes the Republican and Democratic parties think they can even afford to pay for our health care? We are closing in on bankruptcy and the government wants to buy everyone’s health care! May I recommend getting out of debt before we even consider paying for America’s health care. The thought of the government paying for our health bill makes me laugh. Ronald Reagan once said, “The most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”
I want to reply to Mr. Halstead’s comments. First of all, I want to say that it’s too bad Mr. Halstead couldn’t make it to the meeting. I understand that you have a 15-month-old son. Do you want a president who has appointed a czar (Cass Sunstein) that is a “devout disciple” of Peter Singer? A man who believes that people should have the option to abort children up to the age of 2 years old! Peter Singer argues that, “newborns similarly lack the essential characteristics of personhood — rationality, autonomy, and self-consciousness, and therefore killing a newborn baby is never equivalent to killing a person, that is, a being who wants to go on living.” And, some animals, according to Singer, are worth more than some humans. “A smart border collie,” he says, “is worth more, inherently, than a retarded child.” Cass Sunstein has embraced this whole concept. He believes that animals should have some of the same rights as humans, in fact, greater rights than some people — including the right to file lawsuits … what?
Obama also appointed John Holdren, science czar, who believes we should have forced abortions in order to control population. Holdren also believes the population could be sterilized by infertility drugs intentionally put into the nation’s drinking water or food. Single and teen mothers should have their babies taken from them against their will and given away to other couples to raise. People who “contribute to social deterioration can be required by law to exercise reproductive responsibility” — in other words, be compelled to have abortions or be sterilized. Holdren also believes in a transnational “Planetary Regime” that should assume control of the global economy and also dictate the most intimate details of American’s lives using an armed international police force.
You probably say, “Obama doesn’t believe any of that. Stop putting words in his mouth.” I’m just doing what Obama told me to do. He told us to judge him by the people he surrounds himself with. So I am. So far I see that Obama likes to handpick and surround himself with people who believe that it is OK to force people to abort 2-year-old children and sterilize our drinking water. Someone once said, “A government that is big enough to give everything to you is big enough to take everything away.”
Mr. Halstead, God forbid it to happen, but just imagine if your 15-month-old son was diagnosed with some deadly disease and you needed to get him help immediately. You find out that he has about a week to live and is in need of a treatment that will cost the government a sizable amount of money. While waiting for the treatment the doctor comes into the waiting room with your son, hands him back to you, and says, “Your son is not qualified for treatment at this time.” Why? Your son is seen as a burden, he can’t pay taxes, work or be used as a help in any way. He would cost the system too much money. In the eyes of a far left liberal he is nothing but a contribution to global warming, a pollution. In fact, in their eyes, they would rather your son die than cost them any money. You say, “That’s insane!” Is it? If they can justify killing 2-year-olds then I am almost positive that they will have no problem pulling the plug on your son. Now would Obama do that to your son? I don’t know, and neither do you. Obama hasn’t allowed anyone to reveal anything about his past, and by the looks of the people he likes to appoint to power he is certainly qualified to think that way. But again, I don’t know. All in all, the Republicans and the Democrats have become too power hungry. Reagan once stated, “I have wondered at times what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress.” Well, I wonder what Reagan would think of our health care plans being run through Congress?
Mrs. Hale, believing in the Bible and believing that it is right to work for a living is not hypocrisy. We are supposed to be good to our neighbors, but who says that we are supposed to give them free health care? Health care is not a right, just like having a roof over your head, or sleeping in a nice warm bed, or even having food in your belly. But you do have a right to earn it. Here is something to think about — if the administration passes this health care, where will it stop? Is there no end to the desire for power? All they need is a foot in the door, and then there will be no stopping socialism. We are heading down the same paths as countries before us. Don’t you think socialism started a lot like this? Taking control of things like health care and transportation? Obama is even trying to take control of the press in the “Fairness Doctrine.” Once again, I will quote Ronald Reagan, “No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll see on this earth!”
The right for free health care sounds great, but the freedom of choosing your doctor or whether or not your 15-month-old is a human being, I believe, is a far more precious right. I do believe that we need to fix health care, but this power grab plan that is highly promoted, not only by the Obama administration, but by corrupt Republicans, is not the answer. The big question is how many lives will this national health care cost? I am not a Democrat (as you may have guessed), I am not a Republican. I am an American. An independent conservative that believes our founding fathers got it right the first time when they said, “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.”
